What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return to the site, the browser sends the cookie back, allowing the site or a third-party service to recognise the session or record a preference. Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when you close the browser) or "persistent" cookies (stored until they expire or you delete them). They can be set by the domain you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by external services embedded on the page ("third-party cookies").

First-party cookies

H5 Games Hub does not set any first-party tracking or advertising cookies. We do not use cookies to identify you, remember a login, or track your behaviour for our own purposes.

What localStorage is — and how we use it

localStorage is a browser feature that lets a website store data locally on your device without using cookies. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is never automatically sent to a server with each request; it stays entirely within your browser.

We use localStorage for two convenience features:

  • Recently played — a list of the last games you opened, so they appear in a "recently played" section on your next visit.
  • Favourites — any games you have marked as a favourite using the star icon.

This data does not leave your device. It is not accessible to Google, to our game distribution partners, or to any other third party. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's stored site data (instructions below).

Analytics cookies — Google Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic. Google Analytics sets cookies (typically named `_ga` and `_gid`) that assign an anonymous, randomly generated identifier to a browsing session. This allows Google to count visits, measure session duration, and identify which pages are popular. The data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. These cookies are persistent; `_ga` typically expires after two years.

Advertising cookies — Google AdSense

This site earns revenue from advertising placed by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners set third-party cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie (`IDE`) and related identifiers — to serve advertisements, measure their performance, limit frequency, and deliver ads that may be tailored to your interests based on your browsing history across sites that use Google's ad network.

These cookies are set by Google domains (such as `doubleclick.net` and `google.com`) and are governed by Google's own privacy policy. Their persistence varies; some are session cookies and others persist for up to 13 months.

Cookies set inside embedded game frames

Each game runs in an iframe served by a third-party distribution network (GameMonetize or GamePix). Those networks, and the game developers whose titles they distribute, may set their own cookies and use other tracking technologies inside those frames. We have no visibility into or control over those cookies. They are governed by the respective policies of GameMonetize and GamePix, and potentially by the individual game developers. If you are concerned about tracking inside game frames, blocking third-party cookies entirely (see below) is the most reliable approach.

  • Strictly necessary — None. This site does not require any cookies to function.
  • Preferences / localStorage — Recently played and favourites, stored locally on your device only.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics cookies (`_ga`, `_gid`) for aggregate traffic measurement.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense and DoubleClick cookies for ad serving, measurement, and personalisation; cookies from embedded game network frames.

Managing cookies in your browser

All modern browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies. Below are general instructions for the four most common browsers. Menu names may vary slightly between versions.

Google Chrome: Open Settings, then select Privacy and Security, then Cookies and other site data. From there you can block third-party cookies, clear all cookies, or manage exceptions for specific sites.

Mozilla Firefox: Open Settings (the hamburger menu), select Privacy and Security, and find the Cookies and Site Data section. You can choose a standard, strict, or custom tracking protection level and clear stored data.

Apple Safari: Open Preferences (on macOS) or Settings (on iOS), go to Privacy, and you will find options to block all cookies or block cross-site tracking. Use Manage Website Data to delete stored data for individual sites.

Microsoft Edge: Open Settings, then select Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data. You can block third-party cookies and clear stored data there.

Clearing "cookies and site data" in any of these browsers will also clear localStorage, removing your recently played and favourites data along with any cookies.

Consequences of blocking cookies

Blocking advertising cookies will cause Google to serve non-personalised ads or no ads on this site. The site's editorial content and game listings will continue to work normally. Blocking third-party cookies broadly may also affect how embedded games function, depending on how those games use browser storage internally.

Opting out of personalised advertising

You can tell Google not to use your browsing history to personalise the ads it shows you, without blocking cookies entirely:

These opt-outs work by setting a preference cookie that instructs participating ad networks not to use your data for targeting. Clearing your cookies will remove these opt-out signals, so you would need to set them again.
